Dear Parents,
A few notes for you as we approach mid-term.
- Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Sciath na Scol teams who have reached the finals in their groups. They are being held on Thursday November 5th in Pairc Uí Rinn at 1pm and 2pm respectively. Following our Board of Management meeting last night we have decided to take First to Sixth classes to the game by bus. Details of these arrangements will be sent home on Monday, November 2nd. To that end Junior and Senior Infants will finish school at 12 noon on November 5th. Of course, parents may wish to bring children from these classes to the games themselves. We hope this advance notice will facilitate child-collection arrangements on the day if necessary.
- To the parents of Ms. Kelly’s Third Class- Ms Kelly is making progress but will be out longer than previously notified. Ms. Nash will continue to take the class until the start of December and she will also undertake the parent-teacher meetings towards the end of November also. Thank you to Ms. Nash for the great job she is doing and continued best wishes to Ms. Kelly in her recovery.
- BOM Parent Representatives:
All Boards of Management in primary school are reaching the end of their 4-year term. We now need to start the process to appoint new BOM 2015-2019 parent representatives. To this end I propose holding a brief meeting on Monday 2nd November in the Halla, Shanbally NS at 7.30pm to select our parent reps. Following is a relevant extract from the Governance Manual 2015-2019 which states the process.
- The Patron’s representative shall arrange for a meeting of parents of children who are enrolled and have commenced attendance at the school. At least ten days’ notice of such a meeting shall be given in writing to each person entitled to vote at such a meeting. This notification shall: (a) indicate that at the meeting nominations will be sought from parents for persons to stand for election as parent nominees on the Board, (b) clarify whether there will be a ballot at the meeting to elect the nominees 2. At the meeting nominations should be invited for both a mothers’ panel and a fathers’ panel. Each nominee must be seconded by a person in attendance at the meeting. 3. If there is only one nominee for either panel, the nominee(s) shall be deemed to be elected. 4. If more than one nomination is received for either of the panels, a secret ballot shall be held at the meeting. Two tellers shall be appointed 5. Each person voting shall have one, non-transferable vote for each panel. 7. The votes shall be counted in public. 8. The election shall be determined on a plurality of votes (i.e. the first past the post system).
- Parents Contributions
After mid-term we will send home details of this year’s Parents Contributions. Like last year, we are asking for €60 per family. We will detail the importance of this contribution and how we intend to use the contribution within the school.
Thank you. Best wishes for a safe and happy mid-term break.
